Hong Kong based MTR to operate Stockholm Metro
Hong Kong company MTR Corporation has won the consession rights to operate Stockholm Metro for eight years beginning 2 November 2009 with an optional six-year extension.
Stockholm Metro links central areas with surrounding suburbs. 1.2 million passenger trips are made every day on three lines measuring a total of 108 kilometers and served by a network of 100 stations.
The concession includes train and station operations as well as rolling stock maintenance. For servicing, maintenance and cleaning of trains, the Corporation will team up with Norway’s Mantena, a leading maintainer of rolling stock. During the contract period, the signaling system on one of the lines will be replaced and new trains will be introduced. Inclusive of all operating, maintenance and staff costs, together with a projected profit for the MTR, the concession is worth a total of up to SEK $30 billion.
The MTR Corporation operates the 107.2 kilometre London Overground railway service in a joint venture with Germany’s Deutsche Bahn. The partnership, called London Overground Rail Operations Limited, began operating the London Overground service in November 2007 under a seven year concession with an optional two-year extension.
